He stares at the woman.
She towers above him, all fury, all menace, all anger, all her power in her eyes, which look straight at him, locking him, one leg half-raised as if to run and hands to his sides at odd angles, not knowing what to do with themselves.
Punishment will be swift, swifter than he can be, he remembers.
He drops all pretense of strength and does the unthinkable.
He moves towards her, not breaking eye contact, taking in every drop of fury, blinking back fear.
Jaw slack with concentration, eyes wide, he raises his hand towards her face.
There is a sigh.
There is a sudden burst of sunlight.
The woman smiles. He smiles. Everything around smiles.
And all is forgotten in a yellow flare.
